We've just upgraded our 3D engine.

This is a major step in our constant effort to improve the platform. The upgraded engine lets us progressively ship improvements in visual quality and render performance - and the first of those improvements are live today.

What's New

  • Improved sky lighting calculations and atmospherics, so you'll notice lighting changes across your scenes
  • Upgraded and polished rain particles and fog for more realistic weather
  • All environment presets updated - any new generation shows these changes automatically

A better weather system, starting today

The first change you'll notice is weather.

Sky lighting and atmospherics now compute more accurately, which shifts how light behaves across your scenes. Rain particles and the fog system have been rebuilt to look closer to what your sensors see in the real world.

Realism is one of the core reasons teams train on Bifrost data. When synthetic weather matches real weather more closely, models trained on it transfer better - especially for perception tasks where rain, fog, and low light are exactly the edge cases you're short on.

No action needed

Every environment preset has already been updated. Run a new generation and the improvements are in your data - no notebook changes, no re-configuration.

What's next

Changes will be progressive. The engine upgrade is the first step for bigger things, including:

  • An upgraded ocean
  • Multi-sensor support
  • Further render performance improvements
